In Blue River is a performing/writing
duo comprised of singer Maria-Cristina Fantini and guitarist/banjoist
Devon Wells. Their sound blends folk instrumentation with a variety of
diverse influences. The duo was formed in the early part of 2000 in
Toronto. Their unique sound met enthusiastic response amongst the
coffee shop set. They relocated to Vancouver in September of 2002 upon
Maria Cristina’s acceptance into the Masters of Operatic Performance
program at UBC.
In Toronto In Blue River performed
regularly at a number of venues including The Tranzac Club, Holy Joe’s,
Oasis, The Free Times Café, and Graphitti’s. In the summer of 2001 they
played a one off at the Rose and Thistle Pub in St. John’s Newfoundland
and were among the featured performers at the Newmarket Mainstreet Folk
and Blues Festival 2001 in Newmarket, Ontario.
In Blue River has received airplay on
CBC Radio 1, been featured on both York University Radio and Ryerson
College radio, filmed interview and performance segments for Pepper Scott
Web TV, and performed live on Toronto cable morning show Rogers’ Daytime
Television.
In Blue River’s self titled debut album,
recorded at Emmanuel Studios in 2001, has sold over 400 copies. Selections
from the album have been earmarked for inclusion in upcoming independent
films Everywhere All Over and Cazual X.
Currently In Blue River is working on
its sophomore album with producer/engineer Michael Jack. 4 songs from
these sessions have been completed and compiled as an EP (2003). Currently
the pair are enjoying performing in their new hometown of Vancouver.
